Anesthesia Side Effects
What to expect?
There are three phases:
Pre Op: This area is where you will prepare to get ready for your procedure.
OR: This is where your procedure will take place.
Post Op: Here is where you will recover and be monitored from your procedure
How long does the procedure take?
Most procedures usually take 30 to 60 minutes, although you should plan on two to three hours for waiting, preparation and recovery.
ANESTHESIA SIDE EFFECTS:
After a procedure in which sedation is given, you may or may not experience the common side effects of anesthesia. (Depending on the type of anesthesia used) Everyone reacts differently to the medications we give them, recovery time depends on the individual.
1. Grogginess, sleepy or dizzy for several hours, duration may vary.
2. Nausea and vomiting
3. A delayed reaction time.
4. Dry mouth, scratchy throat, runny nose.
5. Shivering and feeling cold
YOUR ANESTHESIOLOGIST WILL DISCUSS YOUR ANESTHESIA PLAN WITH YOU PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE.
Should you have ANY questions at any time during your stay, PLEASE DON’T HESITATE TO ASK!
You will remain in the recovery room until you are stable enough to be discharged home. Duration of anesthesia side effects may vary.
It is commonly recommended that patients should refrain from driving for 24 hours after a procedure in which sedation is given.
Your recovery room nurse will provide you with both verbal and written instructions to follow to ensure a smooth recovery at home.
